PET SOUNDS - BEACH BOYS (1966)

"Pet sounds" fu registrato dai Beach Boys nel 1966. A quarant'anni di distanza dalla sua pubblicazione, un gruppo di musicisti, esperti e produttori musicali lo ha giudicato "L'album rock migliore di sempre".

In pratica, "Pet sounds" rappresenta un progetto solista di Brian Wilson, e molti dei brani furono composti a cavallo fra dicembre 1965 e gennaio 1966, in collaborazione con Tony Asher. Come molti altri musicisti di quell'epoca, Brian Wilson fece ricorso alle droghe per 'potenziare' la propria creatività. Ma non è certo questo l'unico motivo che fa di "Pet sounds" un disco straordinariamente meraviglioso. La struttura dell'album 'a tema' (concept album), l'uso di effetti sonori, la delicatezza delle musiche e degli arrangiamenti: ecco alcuni degli elementi che hanno contribuito a rendere l'album la pietra miliare numero 1 nella storia del rock.

I brani sono tutti squisiti, dal primo all'ultimo. Voglio solo aggiungere che annovero "God only knows" fra le cinque più belle canzoni che abbia mai ascoltato in vita mia.

Potrei andare avanti per ore a parlare di questo capolavoro, tuttavia non mi pare il caso. Consiglio quindi, a chi vuole saperne di più, di acquistare l'ottimo libro di Kingsley Abbott intitolato "The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds", edito in Italia da Arcana Editrice.

Voto personale: non può che essere il massimo - "Eccellente".

"Pet sounds" was recorded by Beach Boys in 1966. Exactly 40 years after its release, a panel of top musicians, recording engineers and producers voted it "The greatest album ever made".

Essentially, "Pet sounds" is a solo work by Brian Wilson. Most of the songs were written during December 1965 and January 1966, in cooperation with Tony Asher. As many other musicians of that time, Wilson took drugs to 'enhance' his creative outburst. In any case, this is not the only reason why "Pet sounds" is so incredibly appealing. The 'concept' structure, the use of sound effects, the exquisite tunes and arrangements - these are only some of the elements that contributed to making this album the number 1 milestone record in the history of rock music.

All the songs are exquisite, none of them excluded. I just want to say that I place "God only knows" with the five best songs I've ever listened to in all my life.

I could go on and talk about "Pet sounds" without end. Yet, this is not the proper place to do such a thing. Therefore, I recommend that anyone who might be interested in this album should buy the excellent book entitled "The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds: The Greatest Album of the Twentieth Century", by Kingsley Abbott.
