IMMAGINI DI CEFALONIA (GRECIA) - PICTURES FROM CEPHALONIA (GREECE)

Alcune immagini di un mio viaggio a Cefalonia, isola greca appartenente all'arcipelago delle Ionie (vedi Corfù, Zante, Itaca, ecc.). Senz'altro l'isola più accattivante, "misteriosa" - in poche parole, "bella" - del Mediterraneo, a mio parere. Ha un qualcosa di non so ché, una morfologia tutta particolare.

Personalmente non vedo il motivo di andare a sbattersi nei posti più sperduti del globo, solo per millantare vacanze "esotiche" nel proprio curriculum di turisti - con il rischio di essere vittime di sequestri, di farsi allegramente aggredire, stuprare, assassinare, ecc. dalla delinquenza locale attirata dall'opulenza di noi 'ricchi' (nel mio caso, si fa per dire ...) turisti Occidentali - quando abbiamo a pochi passi da casa luoghi del genere. (Ciò non significa che non si corrano rischi anche visitando paesi amici: al proposito, la seconda foto a partire dall'alto mostra il sacrario dedicato ai 1000 e passa soldati italiani del Battaglione Acqui, trucidati a Cefalonia dai tedeschi subito che l'Italia firmò l'armistizio l'8 settembre 1943. Ma quella è un'altra storia ...)

E dire che la maggior parte dei turisti, rimanendo in tema di Isole Ionie greche, privilegia Corfù .... Molto più bella Cefalonia, senza dubbio. Come disse, in un perfetto inglese, il comandante della nave, originario dell'isola, con il quale ebbi modo di conversare durante il viaggio: "Cephalonia is the most beautiful island in the world" ... Beh, forse così è esagerato!

Here are some pictures of one remote journey of mine to Cephalonia, the Greek island in the Ionian archipelago (which also includes Corfu, Zakinthos, Ithaca, etc.). No doubt Cephalonia is the most charming, "mysterious" - to sum up, the most beautiful - island in the Mediterranean Sea, in my opinion. It features something special, a peculiar morphology of its own.

I can't see the reason why people should bustle about and travel to the remotest places of the Earth, just to boast about visiting "exotic" countries (with the added risks of being killed, raped, etc. by local criminals lured on by the wealthy Western tourists), instead of going to such wonderful, quiet, safe places as the island of Cephalonia. (Of course, tourists may also find themselves in dangerous situations even in "safe" countries: with regard to this, the second picture from the top shows the memorial stone dedicated to the more than 1,000 Italian soldiers of the "Battaglione Acqui" division who were slaughtered by the Nazis after Italy had signed the armistice with the Allied Forces on September 8th, 1943. But that's a different story ...)

And what's more, people prefer to visit, when it comes to the Greek Ionian islands, Corfu ... In my opinion, Cephalonia is much prettier, indeed. A Greek ship captain (born in Cephalonia), whom I spoke to during the voyage to this island, said that "Cephalonia is the most beautiful island in the world" .... Well, this is a little exaggerated, perhaps!
