FETUS (F. BATTIATO) - 1972

“Fetus” di Franco Battiato può apparire, a distanza di oltre trent’anni, un album decisamente ingenuo dal punto di vista musicale e concettuale. Tuttavia, se raffrontato con i prodotti musicali nostrani di quell’epoca, non si può fare a meno di constatarne l’originalità e la freschezza, considerando soprattutto le esigue disponibilità di strumenti elettronici di allora. Fra l’altro, il battito di cuore iniziale anticipa di oltre un anno i celeberrimi secondi iniziali di “The dark side of the moon” dei Pink Floyd.

I testi sono sicuramente al di sopra della media.

La “cruda” copertina dell’album, disegnata da Gianni Sassi, fu così scioccante da indurre molti negozianti a non esporre il disco negli scaffali.
Voto personale (scarso / insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinti / ottimo / eccellente): Ottimo.

Released in 1972, Franco Battiato’s “Fetus” may now sound quite a bit “naive” from the musical and conceptual point of view. However, compared to the Italian albums published at that time, you can't help admit it is a very original, fresh album, especially if you consider the poor availability of electronic musical instruments in the early 1970s. Among other things, the opening throbbing heartbeat came one year before "Speak to me", the opening track of world-famous Pink Floyd’s “The dark side of the moon”.
The lyrics are no doubt one of the outstanding features of “Fetus”.
The “crude” front cover (designed by Gianni Sassi) was so shocking that many records shopkeepers refused to display this album on their shopwindows.
My personal mark (very poor / poor / pass / good / fairly good / very good / excellent): Very good.
