STATO LADRONE ... (POLITICS CRIMINALS)

Allora ci credevo - quanto ero koglionazzo ...

When I was about to finish high school in 1979, I made this drawing, by taking inspiration on an Italian satirical vintage cartoon strip. Unfortunately, things haven't changed with Italian politics over the past 30 years ...

P.S.
A HORRIBLE DETAIL! See the postage stamp I stuck in the top left-hand corner of the drawing: this stamp was meant to promote the creation of the European Union! I supported the European Union at that time - what a fucking idiot I was ...

SARABANDA (Venegoni & Co.) - 1979 (RE-POST)

Progressive-rock-jazz-folk italiano, fine anni Settanta.

Bah ...)

Voto personale: 8 / 10.

Italian progressive-rock-jazz-folk: this could be a concise introduction to "Sarabanda" by Gigi Venegoni & Co.

My fellow townsman Gigi Venegoni had played guitar with "Arti & Mestieri" (a famous, Italian progressive rock group of Torinese origin too) before he formed the band taking his name - an "open" band with which a large number of musicians collaborated.

"Sarabanda" was released in 1979. After so many years, I still listen to it with great pleasure. A very original record, indeed. (Is it really? Or, perhaps, am I making such a statement due to my great disappointment for today's uniform music? Who can tell ...)

My personal mark: 8 out of 10.

VENEGONI & CO. (1979):

Gigi Venegoni - chitarra, basso, percussioni (guitar, bass, percussion)
Ludovico Einaudi - tastiere (keyboards)
Luca Francesconi - tastiere (keyboards)
Ciro Buttari - percussioni, voce, piano (percussion, vocals, piano)
Pietro Pirelli - percussioni (percussion)
Massimo Aimone - batteria (drums)

TRACK LIST:

1. Mezzogiorno
2. Opa
3. Balon *
4. Sarabanda

* NOTE: "Balon" is the name for the oldest, most popular flea market in Turin.

BY THE DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT (Harold Budd) - 1991

Voto personale: 9 / 10.

Let’s go back to ambient music, the kind of music prevailing in this blog of mine after I started again the blogging activity nearly one year ago. So, one of the best choices is this album by Harold Budd, entitled “By the dawn’s early light” (1991). The album is typical of Budd's signature ambient/minimalist style, and features several short poems, each of them read by Budd himself.

A magic, melancholic album based on orchestra strings and other miscellaneous instruments.

My personal mark: 9 out of 10.

TRACK LIST:

1. Aztec Hotel (Poem)
2. Boy about 10
3. Arcadia
4. Dead horse alive with flies
5. The photo of Santiago McKinn
6. The corpse at the shooting gallery
7. Albion farewell
8. Distant lights of Olancha recede (Poem)
9. Down the slopes to the meadow
10. She dances by the light of the silvery moon
11. Blind bird
12. Saint's name spoken
13. The place of dead roads
14. A child in a sylvan field
15. Boy about 10 (Poem)
16. Wings (Poem)
17. No name (Poem)
18. Advent (Poem)

ART EROTICA 1

I have recently discovered a few illustrated tables by Giovanni Mulazzani, a graphic artist from Italian region Marche who is relatively uknown to most people. These are simple tables portraying female nudity, which someone might appreciate.

CRIMINAL RECORD (Rick Wakeman) - 1977

Nell’eterna diatriba tipicamente prog rock su chi fosse migliore, come tastierista, fra Keith Emerson e Rick Wakeman, ho sempre parteggiato per Emerson.

Voto personale: 7 / 10.

When it comes to the infinite, typically prog-rock discussion on whether Keith Emerson or Rick Wakeman could be considered the best keyboardist of the prog rock genre, I have no doubt: K. Emerson was the best. However, today’s post “Criminal record” by R. Wakeman is quite good, especially the first three tracks (i.e. the ones on side “A” of old-time LPs).

The album was released in 1977 and, similarly to some previous works produced by this British artist, sounds like a concept album based on criminality. As is often the case with Wakeman, virtuoso playing seems to be an end in itself and, as far as my taste is concerned, sounds less genuine and original than Keith Emerson’s.

In any case, this album is worth being listened to, also due to such accompaying musicians as Yes’ Chris Squire (bass) and Alan White (drums)

My personal mark: 7 out of 10.

TRACK LIST:

1. Statue of justice
2. Crime of passion
3. Chamber of horrors
4. Birdman of Alcatraz
5. The breathalyser
6. Judas Iscariot

IMMAGINI ROCK/PROG D'EPOCA (VINTAGE ROCK/PROG PICTURES)

(JIMMY PAGE, LED ZEPPELIN)

(PETER GABRIEL, GENESIS)

"Ciao 2001" was the name of a rock magazine published in Italy in the 1970s and 1980s.

I used to be a keen reader of "Ciao 2001" and I've kept some early issues of it. That's why I'm posting today some pictures taken from the original pages of "Ciao 2001".

GOMMALACCA (FRANCO BATTIATO) - 1998 (Re-post)

Voto personale: 8½ / 10.

Italian singer, songwriter and writer Franco Battiato has ventured into just about every style, from pop muzak to avantgarde: he is rated sort of a national musical icon in Italy, widely considered one the greatest living musicians by both the critics and the public.
“Gommalacca” (1998) is one of the best achievements in Battiato’s long career (his early experimental pop albums date back to the early 1970s). It includes ten songs featuring a perfect balance of pop song patterns, electronic, special effects and original lyrics. As a note in the album’s inside sleeve reads: “I suoni di Gommalacca sono suoni di superficie, di striscio … solo i cantanti e gli indovini li praticano, solo i fortunati li ascoltano” (“The sound and tunes of Gommalacca are glancing, surfacing ones … only the singers and fortune-tellers will pratice them, only the lucky will listen to them …”).

This curious note provides a true introduction to the atmosphere of this album, which reaches its climax in tracks such as “Casta diva”, “È stato molto bello”, “Shock in my town” e “Shakleton”.

My personal mark: 8½ out of 10.

TRACK LIST:

1. Shock in my town
2. Auto da fe’
3. Casta diva
4. Il ballo del potere
5. La preda
6. Il mantello e la spiga
7. È stato molto bello
8. Quello che fu
9. Vite parallele
10. Shakleton
