FLUX AND MUTABILITY (D. Sylvian & Holger Czukay) - 1989

Voto personale (insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinto / ottimo / eccellente): Ottimo.

I have often listened to meditative, ‘ambient’ music over the past few months (or, I should say, over the past two years). In this regard, ‘Flux and mutability’, released by duo David Sylvian-Holger Czukay (whose ‘Plight and premonition’ – an equally ‘soporific’ album – I posted on April 18th, 2011) is a real masterpiece of such a kind (and, in my opinion, a better album that ‘Plight and premonition’).

After having been the leader of pop group Japan, David Sylvian started a very original solo career, exploring such different genres as electronic pop, progressive rock, avant-garde music, ‘ambient’ music and, though to a lesser extent, jazz. Holger Czukay, co-founder of Can, the kraut-rock band active in the 1960s-1970s, has followed the same artistic path as Sylvian’s.

The collaboration between these two musicians gave rise to two albums: ‘Plight and premonition’ (1988) and ‘Flux and mutability’ (1989).

My personal mark (poor / pass / good / fairly good / very good / excellent): Very good.
