JAZZ (QUEEN) - 1978

“Jazz” è il settimo album dei Queen. Pubblicato nel 1978, l’album mescola stili musicali molto differenti tra loro, come il disco-funky (“Fun it”), il vaudeville (“Dreamer’s ball”), il consueto vecchio rock ‘n’ roll (“Dead on time”) e l’hard rock (“If you can’t beat them”). L'eclettismo dimostrato dalla band in questo lavoro è stato allo stesso tempo motivo di plauso e di critiche, e l'album alla sua uscita fu stroncato da alcuni critici. Ad ogni modo, brani quali “Mustapha”, “Jealousy”, “Bicycle race”, “If you can’t beat them” e “Don’t stop me now” rimangono fra le migliori interpretazioni del gruppo di Mercury e soci.
Voto personale (insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinto / ottimo / eccellente): Distinto.

Released in 1978, “Jazz” is the seventh album by British rock band “Queen”. It combines different musical genres such as disco-funky (“Fun it”), vaudeville (“Dreamer’s ball”), rock ‘n’ roll (“Dead on time”) and hard rock (“If you can’t beat them”). Such eclectic track list was at the same time both praised by the fans and torn apart by some critics. In any case, such songs as “Mustapha”, “Jealousy”, “Bicycle race”, “If you can’t beat them” and “Don’t stop me now” are among the best pieces of music ever composed by the band.
The original vinyl record came with a large poster showing the female protagonists of the videoclip for the famous single hit “Bicycle race”: a number of fully naked girls on bicycles, ready to ride along the track at the Wembley Stadium. “Jazz” is the last work by Queen with a note specifying that “no synthetizers were used to record the album”. Moreover - though this is just a remark of mine - it is the last album by Queen really worth listening to.
My personal mark (poor / pass / good / fairly good / very good / excellent): Fairly good.
