REGISTRAZIONI MODERNE (ANTONELLA RUGGIERO) - 1998

La modernità nella musica è un concetto vago.

L'appartenere al presente o l'essere temporalmente vicini alle tendenze del momento garantisce quasi sempre la modernità? Prodotti musicali ormai distanti negli anni possono essere considerati ancora moderni? Cosa separa la modernità dal futuristico?

Antonella Ruggiero, colei che fu per moltissimo tempo l'inconfondibile voce solista dei Matia Bazar e l'immagine del gruppo medesimo, ha pubblicato nel 1998 un CD di sicuro interesse per contenuti artistici, musicali e per i percorsi sperimentali intrapresi. Ad una prima lettura dei titoli dei brani si potrebbe cadere nella facile tentazione di definire quest'album come un "the best of": niente di più errato. O meglio: si tratta di una raccolta di successi dei Matia Bazar ma completamente ripensati, riarrangiati, risuonati, riregistrati, in sintesi, completamente nuovi. Fra le altre cose, dei Matia Bazar ho giò postato “Tango” e “Aristocratica” (rispettivamente l’8 marzo e il 24 maggio) - due album che vale davvero la pena ascoltare.

Subsonica, La Pina + Esa O.T.R., Rapsodia Trio, Ritmo Tribale, Timoria, Blu Vertigo, Banda Osiris, Ars Ludi, Scisma, Madaski: sono queste le band italiane responsabili dell'impatto innovativo impresso alle canzoni. L'ascolto dell'album è una continua sorpresa, un costante gioco di contrasti tra la memoria che ognuno ha delle canzoni in oggetto e la inaspettata vitalità ed attualità che emana dalla novella riproposizione delle stesse.

Non ha senso indicare quale siano i brani migliori di questa compilation: ognuno, ascoltandoli, li eleggerà secondi propri gusti e le novelle impressioni che ne ricaverà.
Voto personale (scarso / insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinto / ottimo / eccellente): Ottimo.

Modernity in music is a vague concept.
Belonging to the present or adhering, from a diachronic point of view, to the present time’s trends should in general be a warrant of modernity. Is it actually? Can some musical products released many years ago be considered to be still modern? Where does the boundary between modernity and futurity lie?

Antonella Ruggiero, the Italian singer who was Matia Bazar’s lead vocalist (and also the “icon” of the band itself) over a long time, published “Registrazioni moderne” in 1998 – an outstanding album rich in artistic contents, musical innovation and experimentation. One might think, when first reading the track titles, that “Registrazioni moderne” is merely a “The best of” album, i.e. a compilation. As a matter of fact, “Registrazioni moderne” is a collection of Matia Bazar's hits, yet the latter have been fully rearranged, re-performed and re-recorded - in a few words, they sound like completely newer pieces. Among other things, you might like - and I recommend that you should listen to Matia Bazar’s “Tango” and “Aristocratica”, two albums I posted on March 8th and May 24th, respectively.

Subsonica, La Pina + Esa o.t.r., Rapsodia Trio, Ritmo Tribale, Timoria, Blu Vertigo, Banda Osiris, Ars Ludi, Scisma, Madaski: these are the names of the Italian bands that imbued the original Matia Bazar songs with a fully innovative and refreshing sound. Listening to this album is a rewarding experience – an incessant surprise, striking your memories with the Matia Bazar songs as they were originally released and the unexpected vitality and modernity of the new versions.

It makes no sense trying to elect the “best” songs of this album: everyone who wishes to listen to “Registrazioni moderne” will elect them according to their own taste and the novel feelings they will experience.

My personal mark (very poor / poor / pass / good / fairly good / very good / excellent): Very good.
