Nel 1969, i Pink Floyd avevano quasi del tutto eliminato i vecchi brani di Syd Barrett dalla scaletta degli spettacoli dal vivo. Al loro posto, il gruppo proponeva una serie di brani – inediti o rielaborazioni di pezzi esistenti – che formavano, nell’insieme, due suite intitolate “The man” e “The journey”. Sono proprio questi brani a rappresentare il materiale presente nell’album dal vivo che posto oggi (registrato ad Amsterdam, il 17 settembre 1969).
Oltre ai pezzi inclusi in lavori precedenti o successivi della band, questo album dal vivo propone due inediti strumentali: “Don’t sleep” e “Labyrinth” (entrambi facenti parte della summenzionata suite “The man”). Purtroppo, la qualità del suono lascia a desiderare. E poi, la voce del commentatore olandese è una vera rottura. Un album da ascoltare, comunque.
By 1969, Pink Floyd’s live performances had almost completely done away with Syd Barrett’s compositions. Instead, the band repertoire included many new and reworked tracks grouped as two suites: “The man” and “The journey”. These tracks are included in the live rarity album I’m posting today (the live show was held in Amsterdam, The Nederlands, on September 17th, 1969).
This album features songs appearing on Pink Floyd’s studio records, as well as two previously unreleased instrumental tracks: “Don’t sleep” and “Labyrinth”, both of which included in “The man”, one of the above-mentioned suites. Unfortunately, the sound quality of this album is poor. Moreover, the commentator’s spoken description (in Dutch, I think) in a real pain in the neck. In any case, it is well worth being listened to.
