L'album d'esordio del supertrio Emerson, Lake & Palmer e, a mio parere, il più bello e originale. Forse per il fatto che fu il primo loro album che ascoltai da ragazzo (quasi 35 anni fa ...), grosso modo nello stesso periodo il cui ascoltai per la prima volta "Felona e Sorona" de Le Orme. Ed essendo già allora tastierista (e anche piuttosto bravo, a dire del mio professore), era più che ovvio rimanere colpiti da un tastierista come Keith Emerson.
Bando ai ricordi! Torniamo a parlare del disco. Che non ha affatto bisogno di commenti. Meraviglioso. Sei brani ottimi, direi anche eccellenti. E come voto avrei dato "Eccellente" se non fosse stato per il "trittico" a base di piano e organo a canne "The three fates": un pezzo indubbiamente bello, ma un tantino fine a se stesso.
In ogni caso, un album imperdibile per gli amanti del rock progressivo.
Voto personale (scarso / insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinto / ottimo / eccellente): Ottimo.
The debut album of Emerson, Lake & Palmer is, in my opinion, the most original and finest of the British supertrio. My opinion is probably due to the fact that this was the first E.L.&P.'s album I chanced to listen to when I was a little boy (i.e. nearly 35 years ago ...) - roughly during the same period when I first listened to Le Orme's "Felona e Sorona". And since, at that time, I was a keyboard player (and a very talented one - at least that was what my piano teacher used to say), it was obvious that I was positively impressed by such a virtuoso player as Keith Emerson.
No more memories of my happy teenage days! Let me go back and talk about this album. Which needs no talking about. Simply a marvellous record! It includes six very good tracks. Or, I could say, six excellent tracks - and indeed I would rate this album as "Excellent" if it weren't for "The three fates" (a "tryptich" based on grand piano and reed organ, which sounds a bit too pretentious).
In any case, "Emerson, Lake & Palmer" is an absolute must for every progressive rock fan.
My personal mark (very poor / poor / pass / good / fairly good / very good / excellent): Very good.
