THE POWER TO BELIEVE (King Crimson), 2003 - RE-POST

Pubblicato nel 2003, “The power to believe” è l’album dei King Crimson che rappresenta il seguito (anche dal punto di vista tematico) del mini-album “Happy with what you have to be happy with” uscito l’anno prima.
Ad esempio, "Level five" ricorda in qualche modo "Vrooom" e "Red"; "Dangerous curves" riporta a "Mars" e "The talking drum"; "Elektrik" emula i suoni di "Discipline" e "Frame by frame"; "Facts of life" presenta alcuni tratti in comune con "21st century schizoid man" e "The sailor’s tale".
Voto personale (insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinto / ottimo / eccellente): Ottimo.

“The power to believe” is an album by King Crimson released in 2003, a companion to the preceding mini-album “Happy with what you have to be happy with” (2002). Although the predecessor “The construKction of light” received largely negative reviews, this album was quite well-received, and is seen by some as a new “Larks’ tongues in aspic” because of how hard the album is, even going as far to becoming heavy metal.
The Power to Believe has individual pieces that are similar enough to music from King Crimson’s past history, enough to raise strong comparisons, but unique enough to stand on their own . For example, "Level five" will raise comparisons to "Vrooom" and "Red"; "Dangerous curves" will raise comparisons to "Mars" and "The talking drum"; "Elektrik" to "Discipline" and "Frame by frame"; "Facts of life" to "21st century schizoid man" and "The sailor’s tale".
“Bartok-metal” (with reference to classical composer Bela Bartok) is perhaps a good description for a lot of music here: at least for "Level five" and "Facts of life", but even parts of "The power to believe (3)" reminds me of elements of “Music for strings, percussion and celesta” (also appearing as soundtrack in Stanley Kubrick’s thriller “Shining”). Gamelan music is perhaps the other. Electrified gamelan music appears in the guitar writing of "Elektrik", and shockingly, "Power to Believe (2)" contains a section that simulates a real gamelan orchestra.
I would say that this particular album is the one in the King Crimson canon that most reminds me in spirit of the 1969 band, album, and live group.
My personal mark (poor / pass / good / fairly good / very good / excellent): Very good.
