DEDALUS (DEDALUS) - 1973

Voto personale (insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinto / ottimo / eccellente): Distinto/Ottimo.

Dedalus were a jazz-rock group from Pinerolo, near Turin, who released two albums before disappearing, and also had a good live activity despite being very far from the most important Italian rock groups of the time. After their live show at the “Festival di Avanguardia e Nuove Tendenze” held in Naples in 1973, they were described by a popular journalist as the revelation of that festival.
Dedalus - not to be confused with another Italian band called ‘Dedalus’ (a.k.a. Collettivo Dedalus) who mix folk with jazz - still keep a high public profile among prog rock fans. Evoking Soft Machine but with an emphasis on keyboards, they use the violin, synthesizer, guitar, sax, cello, bass and drums, yet their style is more experimental and “spacey” than other Italian jazz-rock bands.
The eponymous first LP was their most Soft Machine-like album, featuring some particularly spacey experimentation - one of those 1970s psychedelic treasures catching the essence of jazz-rock with heavy grooves and hypno/experimental effects.
My personal mark (poor / pass / good / fairly good / very good / excellent): Fairly/Very good.
