A volte, la musica che ascoltiamo è legata indissolubilmente a ricordi piacevoli, a periodi della propria vita irripetibili. “Making movies” dei Dire Straits fu pubblicato nel 1980, anno in cui frequentavo il primo anno di università, in una facoltà dove noi maschietti rappresentavamo sì e no il 10% degli studenti iscritti. Comprai il disco immediatamente, su consiglio di un mio amico. E negli anni successivi lo ascoltai spesso, dato che all’epoca attraversavo un periodo in cui mi ero temporaneamente stancato del rock progressivo, preferendo quindi un genere di musica più immediato.
Sta di fatto che, forse anche per le storie sentimentali che mi ricorda dopo tantissimo tempo, “Making movies” è un album che adoro. Più che altri sono le sue canzoni più rilassate ad affascinarmi ancora a distanza di quasi trent’anni, vale a dire “Romeo and Juliet” e “Hand in hand”. Ma anche il brano iniziale “The tunnel of love” è un vero portento, con quel valzerino introduttivo originalissimo.
Ecco il motivo per cui ho deciso di postare “Making movies”, al quale la rivista specializzata “Rolling Stons” ha assegnato il 52° posto dei “100 migliori album degli anni Ottanta”.

Dire Straits’ "Making movies" was released in 1980, when I was in my first year at university, attending a faculty where the ratio of male students vs. female students was approximately 1 to 10. In any case, “Making movies” is an album I love still today, regardless of the nice memories it brings back into my mind. In particular, I’m still fascinated by the “quieter” songs included in the album i.e. “Romeo and Juliet” and “Hand in hand”. But I also love “The tunnel of love”, a powerful opener characterized by the original introductory waltz.

Ammetto, i Dire Straits sono il gruppo (oltre ad altri) che più amo della musica rock. I loro brani più rappresentativi "Romeo and Juliet, Telegraph road, Money for nothing ecc.." sono brani che non mi stanchero mai di ascoltare. Per me un ottimo post.
