THE CONSTRUKCTION OF LIGHT (King Crimson) - 2000

Sebbene molti critici e fan dei King Crimson considerino questo disco appena mediocre, “The construkction of light” non è poi così male, a mio giudizio. Certo non raggiunge le vette di “The power to believe”, pubblicato nel 2003 e da me già postato in precedenza. Tuttavia, i brani n° 2 e 3 (omonimi del titolo dell’album) ed il brano n° 5 “Fraktured” (il quale riprende l’omonima “Fracture” presente in “Starless and bible black”, pubblicato nel 1974) sono in perfetto stile King Crimson. Le tre sezioni di “Larks’ tongues in aspic – Part IV” sono forse troppo confusionarie rispetto all’omonimo splendido brano dell’album omonimo del 1973. Ma il penultimo pezzo (“Coda: I have a dream”) è indredibilmente malinconico, soprattutto nella parte cantata che non riesco ad ascoltare senza provare un indescrivibile senso di malinconia: come recita il titolo, tutti ‘abbiamo un sogno’ e, ahimé, arrivati alla mia età, nella maggior parte dei casi è troppo tardi per realizzare i propri sogni.

Despite a lot of reviewers and King Crimson fans have rated this album quite low, I think “The construkction of light” is not so bad – of course it’s not so great as “The power to believe” (released in 2003) which I already posted. Yet, tracks #° 2 and 3 (bearing the same name as the album itself) and track # 5, “Fraktured” (which sounds quite a lot like the “Fracture” track found in “Starless and bible black”, released in 1974) are no doubt perfect King Crimson style. The three sections making up “Larks’ tongues in aspic – Part IV” may sound like kind of a muddle when compared with the wonderful piece found in the album bearing the same name, released in 1973. And the second last track (“Coda: I have a dream”) is incredibly broody, especially the singing section, which I can’t help listening to without feeling somehow gloomy: as the title goes, everybody ‘has a dream’ but, unfortunately, it might be too late to make your dreams come true when you’re no longer young (just like I myself am).

My personal mark: 7 / 10.
