LE ORME LIVE AT RADIO SUPERSONIC (LE ORME) - 1974

Un ‘discaccio’ non-ufficiale come pochi se ne trovano in giro – un bootleg da non perdere, questo “LE ORME LIVE AT RADIO SUPERSONIC, 1974”.
Innanzitutto, ai più giovani va ricordato questo programma (“Supersonic – Dischi a Mach 2”), che andava in onda sul secondo canale di RADIO RAI (successivamente RADIODUE) ogni sera dalle ore 8 in poi, dal 1971 al 1977 (per maggiori informazioni sul programma, andate a http://www.musicaememoria.com/radio_supersonic.htm ).
Quanto all’album, essendo un bootleg non si può certo pretendere una qualità sonora decente. Tuttavia, la scaletta proposta è interessante, ancor più per il fatto che si trattava della storica formazione ‘trio’ de Le Orme. Da notare la presenza di “Truck of fire – Parts 1 & 2”, che sarebbe successivamente comparsa su “Le Orme in concerto” (il primo album dal vivo ufficiale di un gruppo rock italiano).
Per quanto riguarda gli altri brani, spicca l’esecuzione integrale di “Sospesi nell’incredibile” (tratto da “Felona e Sorona”) e, soprattutto, il brano di chiusura “La porta chiusa” (tratto da “Uomo di pezza”).
Da notare che la copertina posteriore indica erroneamente, come ultimo brano, “Sguardo verso il cielo” (che, invece, è il primo) al posto de “La porta chiusa”.
Pur amando da sempre Le Orme, non possono fare a meno di notare che la loro resa dal vivo lasciava spesso a desiderare – soprattutto il tastierista Tony Pagliuca, nel disperato tentativo di imitare il mio idolo Keith Emerson.
Dopo tutto, il valore di un album del genere è prettamente quello di ‘rarità’.

An unofficial record you will not easily find around – a bootleg album you must not miss at all: “LE ORME LIVE AT RADIO SUPERSONIC, 1974”.
First of all, a word to the younger generations. The radio program “Supersonic – Dischi a Mach 2” was broadcast on Italian broadcasting company RADIO RAI Channel 2 (subsequently named RADIODUE) every night from 8:00 p.m. on, from 1971 until 1977 (for more information on the program, go to: http://www.musicaememoria.com/radio_supersonic.htm ).
As far as this album is concerned, it cannot of course feature good sound quality, due to its being an unofficial recording. However, the track list is quite interesting, and it should be so as the older Le Orme trio performed on this live show. Please note “Truck of fire – Parts 1 & 2”, the longer piece of music that would subsequently appear on “Le Orme in concerto” (the first live album released by an Italian rock band).
The other tracks include the full execution of “Sospesi nell’incredibile” (taken from “Felona e Sorona”) and, above all, the closing track “La porta chiusa” (taken from “Uomo di pezza”).
It should also be pointed out that the rear cover mistakenly refers to “Sguardo verso il cielo” (which, on the contrary, is the opening track) as the closing track instead of “La porta chiusa”.
Though I have always been a keen fan of Le Orme, I have to admit that they were not great live performers on stage – especially keyboardist Tony Pagliuca, always trying to desperately imitate my all-time icon Keith Emerson.
After all, an album like this one ought to be considered in a ‘rarity’ perspective.
