Pubblicato nel 1997, “Cathedral Oceans 1” è un album di musica d’ambiente di John Foxx, già componente degli Ultravox, il quale segnò il ritorno del musicista sulla scena musicale dopo un’assenza di sette anni.
John Foxx ha studiato presso scuole religiose e tali sue esperienze si riflettono in questo album, dando vita ad una perfetta combinazione fra musica elettronica e ciò che potrebbe essere definito una sorta di canto gregoriano moderno – un collage mistico ispirato all’interesse dell’artista per le cattedrali.
Come è avvenuto spesso in questo blog negli ultimi tempi, si tratta di un album di musica ambient, ricco di atmosfere tetre e misteriose.

“Cathedral Oceans 1” (released in 1997) is an album of ambient music by John Foxx, former Ultravox member, which marked the artist’s return to the music scene after an absence of seven years.
John Foxx was educated at two religious colleges and this fact is most evident in this album, where sheer electronic music merges with what could be termed modern Gregorian chanting, thus producing a mystical collage that draws inspiration on Foxx’s interest for cathedrals.
As is usually the case with the latest posts of mine, “Cathedral Oceans 1” can be labelled as an ambient music disc, featuring sombre, eerie atmospheres.
My personal mark: Fairly/Very good.
