“USA” rappresenta l’ultima produzione dal vivo postuma dei King Crimson del periodo di “Larks’ tongues in aspic” – indubbiamente, uno dei migliori dischi dal vivo degli anni Settanta. La qualità del suono è certamente migliore rispetto ad altre testimonianze degli spettacoli della band risalenti a quel periodo (vedere la serie dei quattro album intitolata “The great deceiver”, da me postata l’8 luglio 2007, il 3 settembre 2007, il 4 settembre 2007 e il 1 ottobre 2007.
L’album comprende incisioni del periodo 1973-74, in prevalenza versioni live dei brani presenti in "Larks' tongues in aspic" e "Starless and bible black". Inoltre, contiene due brani in più (gli ultimi due) rispetto all’edizione originale in vinile.
“USA” è un ottimo biglietto da visita dei King Crimson – indispensabile, per gli ascoltatori più giovani, quanto la compilation “A young person’s guide to King Crimson” (ved. mio post del 19 marzo2007) , sebbene sono convinto che avrebbe compilato tale raccolta inserendovi brani diversi.

“USA” represents the posthumous live effort of the “Larks’ tongues in aspic”-era King Crimson, and quite simply, one of the great live album documents to emerge from the 1970s. Relative to the other archive releases available from this era of King Crimson's history (see my “The great deceiver” four-CD set of posts on July 8th 2007, September 3rd 2007, September 4th 2007 and October 1st 2007), I find the sound is best here.
The album includes recordings dating back to 1973-74, most of them live renderings of the pieces contained in "Larks' tongues in aspic" and "Starless and bible black". It contains two extra tracks compared with the original vinyl record release.
“USA” is an excellent King Crimson’s calling card, as obligatory to younger listeners as “A young person’s guide to King Crimson” (which I posted on March 19th 2007) , although I'm sure any of us who would take it upon ourselves to compile such a guide would do so differently than any other.
