Nell’eterna diatriba tipicamente prog rock su chi fosse migliore, come tastierista, fra Keith Emerson e Rick Wakeman, ho sempre parteggiato per Emerson.
Voto personale: 7 / 10.
When it comes to the infinite, typically prog-rock discussion on whether Keith Emerson or Rick Wakeman could be considered the best keyboardist of the prog rock genre, I have no doubt: K. Emerson was the best. However, today’s post “Criminal record” by R. Wakeman is quite good, especially the first three tracks (i.e. the ones on side “A” of old-time LPs).
The album was released in 1977 and, similarly to some previous works produced by this British artist, sounds like a concept album based on criminality. As is often the case with Wakeman, virtuoso playing seems to be an end in itself and, as far as my taste is concerned, sounds less genuine and original than Keith Emerson’s.
In any case, this album is worth being listened to, also due to such accompaying musicians as Yes’ Chris Squire (bass) and Alan White (drums)
My personal mark: 7 out of 10.
