Il primo Montreux Jazz Festival risale all’anno 1967. La manifestazione fu organizzata al Montreux Casino: durava tre giorni e presentava quasi esclusivamente musicisti jazz. Dopo I primissimi anni dedicati prettamente a questo genere di musica, durante il anni Settanta il festival aprì le porte ad altri generi ed attualmente propone artisti dei più disparati generi musicali, nonostante il jazz rappresenti il protagonista principale. Nelle ultime edizioni, la rassegna si protrae per ben due settimane, raccogliendo un numero di visitatori che arriva a superare i duecentomila.
La storia dei Jethro Tull affonda le sue radici alla fine degli anni Sessanta. Più di trent’anni dopo, esattamente nell’estate del 2003, il gruppo si presenta per la prima volta sul palco del Montreaux Jazz Festival, manifestazione che, come ho sottolineato, va ben oltre la musica jazz e, soprattutto, ha prodotto - e continua a produrre - meravigliose registrazioni dal vivo. E l’album dei Jethro che posto oggi non è affatto un’eccezione al riguardo. Ian Anderson, leader e autentica personificazione della band, conserva una voce vivace e limpida, oltre a suonare ottimamente un gran numero di strumenti, flauto traverso su tutti. Gli altri componenti del gruppo - tutti tranquilli musicisti rock di mezza età - danno origine ad un complesso in grado di passare con dimestichezza dal blues tradizionale al rock progressivo di sapore medievale al quale i Jethro Tull devono la loro fama.
Il concerto è diviso in due parti: il Disco 1 comprende brani semi-acustici improntati al rock-blues, mentre il Disco 2 ripercorre con energia alcuni dei più noti successi della band. In ogni caso, un album che i fan dei Jethro non devono assolutamente perdersi.

In 1967, the first Montreux Jazz Festival opened its doors. The festival was held at the Montreux Casino: it lasted for three days and featured almost exclusively jazz artists. Originally a pure jazz festival, it opened up in the 1970s and today presents artists of nearly every imaginable music style, even though jazz remains an important part of the festival. Today's festival lasts about two weeks and attracts an audience of more than 200,000 people.
Jethro Tull enjoy a history of music that dates back to the late 1960s.
