“Thriller” è l’album più famoso di Michael Jackson. Con la sua pubblicazione (dicembre 1982), l’album lanciò l’artista americano nell’olimpo delle star internazionali. Proprio quest’anno, la NARM (“National Association of Recording Merchandisers”) e la Rock and Roll Hall of Fame hanno collocato “Thriller” al terzo posto della classifica "Definitive 200", una graduatoria dei migliori album rock di tutti i tempi.
Secondo il Guinness World Records, “Thriller” è il disco che ha venduto di più in assoluto al mondo: oltre 104 milioni di copie! Non solo: l’album continua a vendere circa 60.000 copie ogni anno nei soli Stati Uniti.
Tralasciando i giudizi che si possono dare su un “tipo” come Michael Jackson, è innegabile che “Thriller” rappresenta un capolavoro allo stato puro, capace di abbinare dance music, rock e pop leggero. Fra l’altro, mi fa tornare indietro nel tempo ad anni felici: quando frequentavo le discoteche a metà anni Ottanta, amavo ballare al suono di “Thriller”. In particolare, amavo abbandonarmi, con la mia ragazza del momento, alle note lente di “The lady in my life” ...
Non esiste un solo brano debole nel disco: basti pensare a “Billie Jean” e “The girl is mine”, i due singoli di fama mondiale tratti da “Thriller”. Alla realizzazione dell’album contribuirono grandi nomi della musica: Eddie Van Halen suona l’assolo di chitarra in “Beat it”; Paul McCartney duetta con Jackson in “The girl is mine”; Steve Lukather, Jeff e Steve Porcaro, componenti dei Toto (presenti a vario titolo in diverse canzoni). Solo per citarne alcuni.

Among other things, it makes me go back in time to the happiest days of my life: when I went to discos in the mid 1980s, I loved dancing to the sound of “Thriller”. In particular, I loved hugging my occasional girlfriends to the slow rhythm of “The lady in my life” …
There is no “weak” song on the album: in particular, “Billie Jean” and “The girl is mine” were two major hits worldwide.
