DON GIOVANNI (LUCIO BATTISTI) - 1986

“Don Giovanni” è un album pubblicato da Lucio Battisti nel marzo 1986, con la collaborazione del poeta-paroliere Pasquale Panella (famoso per i suoi testi ermetici e ricchi di doppi sensi). Si tratta del primo (o secondo, dipende dai punti di vista) album del “nuovo corso” battistiano.

Lo scorso 12 maggio ho postato “La sposa occidentale”, album di Battisti del 1990, caratterizzato da sonorità techno-pop. Prima ancora, il 3 maggio, avevo postato “Il nostro caro angelo” del 1973, uno dei migliori album del Battisti primo periodo (quello più caro ai fan dell’artista di Poggio Bustone).

“Don Giovanni” è una via di mezzo fra il vecchio e il nuovo. Nonostante la presenza dell’elettronica, i brani ricordano in qualche modo quelli di un tempo, e la stessa presenza dell’orchestra garantisce un suono più “italico” e meno “sintetico”. Fra l’altro, pezzi quali “Don Giovanni”, “Le cose che pensano” e “Fatti un pianto” non possono fare altro che destare grande emozione e interesse.

Voto personale (scarso / insufficiente / sufficiente / buono / distinto / ottimo / eccellente): Ottimo.

Released in 1986, “Don Giovanni” is an album by Italian pop-singer Lucio Battisti, produced in collaboration with poet-lyricist Pasquale Panella (famous for his mysterious, cryptic lyrics rich in puns). It is the first - or second, depending on one’s viewpoint - album of Battisti’s “new course”, characterized by techno-pop sounds and patterns, such as the ones found in “La sposa occidentale, released in 1990 (which I posted on May 12th).

Among other things, I had also posted, on May 3rd, “Il nostro caro angelo”, which is one of the best albums released by Battisti in his earlier song-writing stage (i.e. the one Battisti’s fans are particularly keen on).

“Don Giovanni” is sort of half-way between the earlier and later style adopted by this famous Italian pop artist (born in Poggio Bustone, not far from Rome, in 1943, and passed away untimely in September 1998). In spite of its featuring electronic atmospheres, the songs sound somewhat like Battisti’s 1970s hits, and the very orchestra instruments yield a more “Italian” and less “synthetic” feel. In my opinion, “Don Giovanni”, “Le cose che pensano” and “Fatti un pianto” are among the best songs ever composed by Lucio Battisti.
